Ok...so most people know that I can't draw a straight line to save my life. I can, however, make costumes! One costume, which has been up on my deviantart page for years, has suddenly become a target. I made two of them. One for me and one for a friend. We wore them to a convention and, later, I sold mine on e-bay. Last week, Deviant suddenly took down this submission of mine stating that it was in violation of copyright infringements. They have twice referred me to the page that explains the copyright policy. Has anyone else noticed that their copyright policy is really nothing more than a glorified statement of copyright infringements being very broad??? Anyway, I contacted the help desk stating that I didn't understand what copyright law had been broken and that I have proof that it is, in fact, my own work. They reply once again with a reference to the copyright policy. How can we know not to do something if they will not tell us what copyright law we have broken. Deviant goes to great lengths to tell us just how many ways we can infringe on copyright, but they don't tell us anything specific. I don't believe that I have broken any copyright laws. From what Deviant has stated to me, it seems that someone else is trying to claim my work. So far, Deviant has done nothing but communicate with me as though I am the thief. Whether it was a simple mis-statement in my description or an actual case of art theft, I am not happy at all with the way that DeviantArt has chosen to handle the situation.
